Shine bright like a diamond
I moved to New York City when I joined Chelsea Piers, Manhattan’s most beautiful wellness facility. I managed the spa there and Chelsea Piers is where I took my first yoga classes. Spa management is how I was introduced to self-care, clean diet, massage, serious skincare, acupuncture — so many holistic healing modalities.
With the intention to learn more about how to build businesses, I joined the management team at a financial services firm, Wall Street Systems, where I apprenticed with C-level executives. I began as Executive Assistant and later transitioned to roles in Sales and Account Management. My work offered me the opportunity to travel all over — Prague, Barcelona, Paris, London, Corsica and around the US from NYC to Boston, Miami, Las Vegas, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, etc. I worked on multi-million dollar acquisitions and furthered my business experience at ION Trading and SuperDerivatives, where I had the chance to study in Israel and visit Jerusalem and the Dead Sea — unparalleled spiritual sites I highly recommend visiting. The perspective I gained from working with people all over the world has proven invaluable as a teacher.
In 2014, after several years of increasing curiosity in dharma, the philosophy of yoga, I completed my first teacher training with Michael Hewett, founder of Vessel Academy (formerly Sarva Yoga Academy), Matthew Lombardo and Lilia Mead. This marked the beginning of my immersion in the study and practice of authentic, lineage-based yoga. I advanced my studies in across New York at ISHTA, Integral Yoga Institute, Jivamukti, Pure Yoga, Yoga Shanti and Go Yoga (my teacher, Lilia Mead’s now-closed studio… the first Vinyasa yoga studio in Williamsburg).
I spent a good bit of the next year in New Orleans where I worked on several entrepreneurial projects while deepening my studies, beginning to teach, and living the yogi’s lifestyle. I founded an art event series in the French Quarter with Brandon Pellerin, through which we connected local artists, food artisans, and the people in a contemplative, intimately connected salon-style space. I also helped with the opening of Good Karma Plant-Based Cafe where I learned so much about compassionate cooking and conscious living.
During my renaissance period in New Orleans, I had the opportunity to study at Swan River Mandir with Michelle Baker and Kelly Haas. We dove deep into postural alignment, hands-on adjustments and therapeutic applications of yoga asana, as well as traditional ritual practices, mantra chanting and meditation. It was a precious time for deep practice, away from the bustle of busy city life. Admittedly, New Orleans is nowhere close to a sleepy town but nothing compares to NYC.
In 2015, I returned to Manhattan’s finance industry, joining the executive team at Strategic Insight. I began teaching yoga & meditation at Three Jewels NYC while studying Tibetan Buddhism with Hector Marcel. As Director of Yoga, I was part of the management team to open Three Jewels’ flagship location in Manhattan’s East Village. I spearheaded the launch of Three Jewels’ Yoga Teacher Training program with 300-hour and 200-hour formats in collaboration with Michael Hewett, Gina de la Chesnaye and, later, Coco Korniczky. We are now rolling out Three Jewels Mentorship program. Creating community and opportunity for NYC’s diverse yoga teacher and student community is really my passion.
I recently partnered with my long-time teacher, Michael Hewett, on the opening of Vessel Academy. Come visit us in the penthouse at 276 Fifth Avenue! Vessel offers authentic yoga instruction in its most pure form: one-to-one, through semi-private sessions, in community off the mat/cushion, and on retreat. Retreat is a key element for urban practitioners to progress — modern life necessitates time set aside to really go deep. I have practiced on retreat (some fully-silent and solitary) around the world. I consider retreat vital for integration and honest reflection for clarity. We will travel to Tuscany in August for our Trance & Transcendence retreat… join us!
In January 2019, I spent two weeks on retreat in South India to study ancient Ayurvedic yoga with Sarah Tomlinson. My current academic focus is on Ayurvedic Astrology and alignment under her guidance and through her incredible generosity of time and joyful effort. I offer Ayurvedic Birth Chart analysis and Yantra Readings.
